Paris 8e Arrondissement
Overview
Background
Located on the right bank, the 8e arrondissement is known as elite part of Paris and one of the city’s main commercial districts. Once an area of countryside outside the city walls, the land was developed as the city of Paris grew during the 18e century and the district gradually gained acclaim for its elegance and grandeur as well as its shopping and nightlife. Dominated by the Champs Elysées which cuts a diagonal line right through the arrondissement, itis home to many notable cultural sites as well as the Palais de l’Elysée, the official residence of the President of France. Although the Champs Elysées has become a haven for tourists, the surrounding area still boasts some of the most exclusive shopping streets in Paris as well as many of the city’s renowned luxury hotels and fine restaurants. The 8e mainly consists of business and touristic establishments and offers relatively few residential properties but its refined yet lively atmosphere continues to draw homebuyers looking to soak up the prestige and history of the neighbourhood.
Profile
A home in the 8e arrondissement is the dream of many homebuyers around the world who are attracted by the prestige of the address and its international cachet, so it is not surprising that almost 2 in 10 of the area’s residents are foreign. Moreover, the 8e has the highest proportion of second homes in Paris. Despite its undeniable appeal, this area is less densely populated due to its few residential zones and high concentration of tourism as well as being a political and business district with the Elysée Palace, numerous embassies and company headquarters. The 8e is comprised of the areas of Champs-Elysées, Madeleine, Faubourg-du-Roule and Europe. Although the Champs Elysées is known as the most beautiful avenue in the world, it is mainly a classy commercial area with very few residential properties. The same goes for the luxurious ‘Golden Triangle’, the most expensive part of the arrondissement which attracts foreign buyers looking for a prestigious address. The neighbourhoods of Madeleine and Faubourg-du-Roule are more residential alongside various financial institutions. The Europe quarter is known for its village-like atmosphere which appeals to middle and high class buyers.
Almost all of the housing in the 8e consists of apartments, duplexes and even triplex style lofts which are found in the beautiful historic buildings. There are some rare modern constructions which provide contrast with the classic Haussmann architecture and offer stylish apartments with all modern comforts.
