Gstaad

Overview

Background

Widely considered to be one of the world’s most exclusive ski resorts, Gstaad effortlessly mixes winter sports with elegant chic. The town has three palaces and many 5-star hotels, not counting the luxury chalets which attract some of the biggest international names. Situated in the municipality of Saanen, Gstaad is located at a height of 1050m above sea level and is home to a reputed ski domaine. Since the 18th century the English have flocked to the Bernese Oberland to experience the wonderful scenery, but it was with the construction of the Grand Hotel Schreiber that city architecture was first introduced to a mountain setting. The hotel quickly became a key destination for high society of the time and served as a model for the Gstaad Palace which was built at the beginning of the 20th century. To this day, Gstaad’s reputation for prestige has never diminished.

Gstaad is a luxury paradise for the elite with Michelin-starred restaurants, top-quality amenities and a handy airport, but the small villages nearby also offer excellent facilities, especially for families.

The unique alpine setting and the nature reserve of Lake Lauenen all contribute to the tranquil and relaxing atmosphere of the area of Gstaad-Saanenland and the town offers endless services for the comfort of both residents and visitors.
