Crans-Montana
Overview
Background
Crans-Montana is situated in the Valais canton and extends from the Matterhorn towards Mont Blanc. It is without a doubt one of the best-loved Swiss ski resorts and manages to keep its village atmosphere while at the same time offering modern, high-quality services and amenities. Initially founded at the beginning of the 20th century (the first ski lift was built in 1928) it encompasses the communes of Icogne, Lens, Montana, Randogne, Mollens and Chermignon, and offers a vast skiing area of 140km of pistes. In 1987, thanks to its excellent facilities, the town hosted the Ski World Championships.
As well as skiing and winter sports, Crans-Montana also has much to offer its upper-class visitors and inhabitants. The resort is also known for world-class events and festivals, quality golf courses and luxury shops. Add to this the outstanding natural beauty which makes the area ideal for hiking and also the delicious cuisine and it is not difficult to understand why Crans-Montana is popular in both summer and winter.
