Ibiza
Overview
Background
Internationally renowned as one of the biggest nightlife destinations in the world, Ibiza has a huge number of bars and clubs. Between the 1960s and the 1980s,Ibiza was a hangout for hippies and underground culture and has since become a capital of dance music. However, people tend to forget that Ibiza is also a beautiful Balearic island with a pleasant climate and away from the resort towns there are plenty of authentic and unspoiled areas.
The history of Ibiza began in 654 BC when the Phoenicians founded the port of Ibossim. The island was bombarded throughout the centuries by attacks from the Greeks, Carthaginians, Arabs and finally the Spanish and there are traces of Ibiza’s turbulent history all over the island.
